In part one of this two-part blog series, we went over some basics on how to prepare your home's plumbing system for the fall and upcoming winter. Fall is a transitional season for homeowners in several ways, including ensuring their plumbing setup is set for the cold season and won't experience any problems.
At My Buddy the Plumber, we're here to help with a wide variety of plumbing needs, including everything from basic drain cleaning through emergency plumbing services and more. We're happy to perform a seasonal inspection on your system, helping you note any small concerns or minor repair needs that can be handled now before they become more problematic. Both on your own and with the assistance of our plumbers where necessary, here are a few other general tips for fall plumbing maintenance.
The spring and summer months that have preceded fall will often create some significant strain on the sewer system in your home, and this transitional season is the perfect time to inspect it. If you have a sewer system, it can be easy for even routine inspections to get lost in the shuffle of the busy surrounding months. This doesn't mean you should neglect your sewer system, however!
As fall approaches, take some time to inspect your sewer lines by utilizing a sewer scope camera. This will allow you to inspect the sewer system and note any problems that may arise. For instance, tree roots can sneak into sewer lines and disrupt the natural flow of your home's wastewater. If this happens, it can cause a backup and lead to major problems with your plumbing at some point in the future if left unattended.
Regular maintenance of your home's water heater is vital to keeping it functional throughout the year. At My Buddy the Plumber, we recommend testing your water heater every month to ensure it's providing you with safe and efficient service. This can be as easy as letting a few gallons of cold water run through the tank before you take a shower or turn on the faucet to wash dishes by hand.
The fall, in particular, is an ideal time to consider water heater maintenance from a professional. With temperatures turning cooler, your water heater will have to work harder to warm up water that begins at colder temperatures, so ensuring it's in good working order is valuable.
Whether for a basic inspection and upkeep appointment or to deal with specific repair needs, call on our plumbers if you need assistance. Our plumbers are available for a variety of repairs and installations, including water heaters and sump pumps, among many other services.
