In part one of this two-part blog series, we went over some of the primary benefits of installing a smart thermostat in your home. While these items are known for the way they improve convenience and comfort, they’re also major tools for many homeowners in reducing costs and limiting strain on HVAC components over time.
At My Buddy the Plumber, we’re happy to offer smart thermostats among our numerous HVAC and plumbing services. We’ll perform comprehensive smart thermostat installation, ensuring the thermostat is fully integrated with your system and has the proper connections – and we’ll also offer expertise on how to optimize and utilize the smart thermostat. Here are some of the other fantastic ways a smart thermostat benefits you within the home.
As we noted in part one, smart thermostats don’t just program to your schedule – they actually learn your routine over time, and conform their scheduling to it. They allow you to set ideal temperatures for numerous different periods: When you wake up, when you go to sleep, when you arrive home from work, and many others.
And once the thermostat knows where you like the temperature during these periods of time, it will begin to automatically define those times. It will know when you typically get home from work after a week or two, for instance. In addition, smart thermostats use local weather forecasts to predict when temperatures outside will change significantly, and can adjust their settings to account for this.
In addition, smart thermostats are easily able to integrate with other smart home features you may already have, or may be considering in the future. One simple feature here is smart speakers – you can connect these with your thermostat, allowing you to adjust the temperature with verbal commands from anywhere in the house.
There are plenty of other options here, as well. Many smart thermostats will be paired with smart smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, which will allow the thermostat to turn off heat if there’s a fire, for instance. You can also integrate with doorbells, cameras and locks.
Some may be concerned about protecting personal data and location, but this is no problem with a modern smart thermostat. While your thermostat may ask you to use geofencing technology to register when you enter and leave the home, those concerned about privacy here do not have to consent – you can simply turn this setting off. Instead, the thermostat will use other information to tell when you’re home. Meanwhile, all data collected by smart thermostats is restricted and confidential.
